The beginnings of our partnership
Jade and I initially connected when we both worked for the same company, her at the Wellington office, and me in Auckland. Despite the distance, we developed a great connection working collaboratively. When Jade decided to establish her own business, she messaged me on Linked In to see if I was able to provide some guidance.
About Jade and her business
In April 2018, Jade put her impressive qualifications and private and public sector experience into establishing Wikaira Consulting Limited. Her services include environmental planning and resource management, strategic policy and the integration of te ao Māori perspectives. All focussed on delivering outcomes that reflect the aspirations of iwi, hapū and Māori communities.
The challenges of getting your business visual identity started
I know it can be a challenge to find people you ‘know, like and trust’ to help you at the beginning stage of your business. With a friendship already established, it was an easy process to talk with Jade about what she was needing help with to get set up. We video-called and discussed the direction of the Wikaira Consulting brand. Our aesthetics aligned and within a couple of weeks, Jade had the starter design assets including a logo and business letterhead.
Over the years we have continued to build on the identity of Wikaira Consulting in alignment with their vision, mission, and core values. As Jade’s business has grown from solopreneur to a larger team of consultants, we have expanded on the visual assets, templates and tools. These enable her team to deliver cohesive, high-quality outputs.
Delivering our first big project - a multi-page report
One of the first major projects we completed was the Marae Development Report for Waitetoko Marae. This was of particular significance for Jade as it is her home marae.
Since then, Jade has engaged me to design numerous Cultural Impact Reports and Assessments. Jade has shared with me that these reports are always well received.

Zoe's reports are high-quality, well laid out and comes from the perspective of asking what the reader needs to see and feel in the way the information is conveyed.
Most of my work involves needing to get complex multi-faceted information across to diverse audiences. Zoe is able to produce presentations and reports that are enjoyable to read and accessible to a range of audiences without losing any of the significant information.
Engaging clients and stakeholders with presentations
Jade and her team also deliver engaging presentations and I love working with them to elevate the visuals. Whether it's for internal meetings, bespoke training courses or conference presentations, I help Jade use the power of visual communication to:

How we work together effectively
Jade and I are based in different cities, yet still catch up regularly via Teams and make the most of collaborative cloud documents. We utilise Share for Review in Adobe InDesign and we have a dedicated ‘Design Drive’ in Microsoft SharePoint to collaborate efficiently. This has eliminated email back and forth of ‘can you send me the latest version of x file’.
We never miss an opportunity to catch up in person
Earlier this year had a ‘Design Day’ in Christchurch. Amongst showing Jade where to enjoy the best cocktails, and best breakfast in the city. We spent a day working ‘on the business.’ With a day solely focussed on Wikaira Consulting, we identified some areas where we could implement some process improvements. I designed some bespoke templates that are now used daily in her business.
In April Jade invited me to join her team at the NZPI Gala dinner so I could meet the rest of her team.
