Ovarian Cancer Guide

When diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, Tash Crosby (Founder of charity, Talk Peach) was handed a small piece of paper from an overseas charity. At this extremely difficult time, it was apparent there was a complete lack of guidance, information and support available in Aotearoa.

This experience was the catalyst for the Ovarian Cancer Guide - the first New Zealand, evidence based resource developed with experts working in cancer care and people who have experienced living with ovarian cancer.

The goal

To create a valuable resource for those diagnosed and those affected by a loved ones diagnosis on all aspects of living with ovarian cancer.

The process

Tash had the written copy for the guide in a Google doc and the existing brand identity of Talk Peach. She wanted to elevate the visual appeal of the document. It was imperative that the document be clear and easy-to-read, whilst adding ‘playful’ visual elements. The guide needed to be formatted to be a downloadable from their website and printed for district health boards nationwide.

From here, I created a style guide showing a sample of pages with the chosen colour palette, typesetting, table design - all elements to enhance the reading experience. Once approved I continued to lay out the document into colour coded sections for easy navigation. Key information was formatted in highlighted sections. Tables, diagrams and illustrations help to convey the large amount of information. Organic shapes create a friendly, playful element to balance the sensitive nature of the information.

The outcome

This 84 page A5 guide was completed on time and budget. The guide has been well recieved and is available to download on the Talk Peach website, and as a printed resource in district health boards across New Zealand.

We have worked twice now with Zoe from On Format, and we will again.

A pleasure to work with. The resources we had created were sensitive in nature involving personal stories and quotes from those with ovarian cancer, and we felt safe with these in Zoe’s hands.

Our 2nd project a guide to support those diagnosed contained alot of medical information and it was imperative we had things just right as the guide is to be distributed to DHBs around the country.

Zoe was patient, crossed all the T's and dotted the I's (literally) and we couldn't thank her more for the final design. We feel she went above and beyond what we had in our minds design wise.

Ngā mihi atu Zoe!
