I know, people don’t usually sing the praises of Inland Revenue, the organisation tasked with taking money off you. But my experience with them to date has been entirely positive.
As a newbie to running a business, I needed to get my head around my tax obligations fast!
FIRST STOP – IRD WEBSITE
The Tool for Business content was clearly displayed and easily navigable. I found the videos particularly useful as someone who absorbs information from visual content better.
FREE TAX SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS
Inland Revenue run free business workshops. I wasn’t too enthused about attending these but was pleasantly surprised.
Their presentations were simple, effective and the presenters were well informed. They touched on the business transformation the organisation is currently going through - it is almost impossible for them to find paper forms anymore as they move towards using technology and information in smarter ways.
I’m now following their Inland Revenue NZ for Business Facebook page which is full of handy tips.
Another handy tool is their recently released Business Survival Guide. It’s an interactive online roadmap that takes the user on a personalised journey.
Inland Revenue are really thinking about their customers’ needs. They are streamlining processes and using technology and visual content to improve the user experience.
I can now say that I am confident with my tax obligations and have successfully filed my first GST return, yay!!
