I’ve been working with Adobe InDesign for nearly 10 years now and it is by far my favourite software.
I initially trained in InDesign so I was able to produce professional board reports, but have found it so versatile that I use it daily for everything from e-books to creating social media visuals.
Here’s 6 reasons you’re so special to me InDesign:
1. LAYOUT OPTIONS
The layout features in InDesign such as the presets, guides and master pages make it far superior to other applications when it comes to design and layout of multi-page documents. It is so easy to set-up your document in the right format, whether it be Print, Web or Mobile.
It’s got all my fonts, colours and styles ready to go when I need them. It makes it super easy to keep your branding consistent.
I rarely leave InDesign as I find it the most user-friendly application, but when I need to bring in photos and graphics from Photoshop and Illustrator, they integrate beautifully with InDesign.
4. IMAGE FITTING
It’s so simple to place images in InDesign and get a perfect fit. My favourite command is Fill Frame Proportionally (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+C). Other options are Fill Content Proportionally, Fit Frame to Content, Fit Content to Frame and Centre Content.
Preflight is the quality check feature before you publish your document. This handy little panel warns if there are any problems such as missing fonts, low-resolution images or overset text. I love seeing the green light meaning everything is good to go!
6. IT JUST GETS BETTER
Adobe InDesign CC is continually improving, and I love seeing new updates come through. TypeKit has been a huge time-saver for me to get the fonts I need, and I love exploring the improvements in interactive publishing.
So InDesign, you are a bit pricey, but you are my first choice for creating high quality documents across digital and print media.
